Carbon Monoxide-The Silent Killer

By | Boiler, Furnace, Heating, Residential

Carbon Monoxide-The Silent Killer!

This Boiler was in need of MAJOR Repair- Improper Combustion Caused the Sooting of the boiler to fill This Gentlemen’s House with Carbon Monoxide. His Boiler was leaking water as well causing the burners to completely rot out. Natural Gas was pouring from the end of the burners, lighting, then (thankfully) the water was putting out the flame. Great to save from an explosion, but horrible for the headaches.

Way Too Much Carbon Dioxide-

This house was filled with over 3000 parts per million. If This Gentlemen’s home was not loose as it is, he was at a level that could cause death in less than an hour-Check Out This Chart-
co chart

The Experts say that it is colorless and odorless, however, a well trained HVAC Technician can detect the odor of improper combustion, often the leading culprit of CO Poisoning. These can be acidic taste on your tongue, black powdery substances on window sills, and most often, complaints of headaches, nausea, and of being tired all of the time.

Winter Is Here – Is Your Heating System Ready?

Winter Is Here – Is Your Heating System Ready?

By

Winter is here, we all felt Rochester’s mighty weather last year when heating systems alike we’re failing at a constant rate because of the below freezing temps we had for an extended period of time. It almost felt like summer was never coming back. Last year was a record breaking year for sure, and the mass amounts of middle of the night no heat calls kept us busy well into the spring. It was apparent that our highly trained HVAC Technicians could identify which heating units had recently been serviced prior to the winter and which heating units that hadn’t been serviced in quite some time. Staying warm and comfortable with peace of mind in your own home is something that everyone has a chance to obtain and should be a top priority, especially in preparing for Rochester’s harsh winters. Each fall you prepare your house for the winter, why should your heating unit, which is the most important piece of equipment in your whole house, be any less important? Getting your HVAC units serviced before the heating season is always highly recommended, not only to assess your unit to see if any minor repairs are needed before they turn into major expensive repairs, but if you have had a new unit installed then yearly maintenance is required to keep your warranties valid. If you haven’t taken the time to have your heating system serviced then now is an excellent time. The winter here in Rochester is only going to get worse and we all know it.

Here and there we might have a few mild days or two, but the majority of Rochester’s winter is incredibly cold, freezing, filled with snow and ice. After an extensive period of time, if your heating system hasn’t been properly maintained by a certified and insured technician then odds are, if your furnace is older than 10 years, there’s a very good chance that on one of these below freezing nights that Rochester is very well known for, your furnace is going to fail. It’s the same with any other heating equipment, the time frame may be a little more than 10 years, but the results are the same. Without a highly trained HVAC technician assess your equipment, running diagnostics and testing each piece of hardware in your HVAC equipment, small cheap minor repairs that you’ll be made aware of ahead of time will most certainly turn into full, more expensive repairs, if not a whole new unit replacement. That’s not to say that if our highly trained Technicians feel that the cost of the repairs outweigh a replacement system, which would be more advanced, save you more money each month in energy bills (could potentially cut them in half), could be the solution in your particular situation.

Our Technicians are trained to take your whole house, budget, heat loss from your home, and many more aspects into consideration when recommending which piece of equipment is right for you. Our Technicians are not salesmen, they are there to educate you on the history of your equipment and offer you the best possible solution that’s back but a 110% guarantee. Last year there was a good faction of HVAC equipment that was improperly installed which will cause failures in your system and higher energy bills than you should be paying each month. There is an old saying, you pay for what you get, if your very limited by budget there might be a company out there who can provide you with what you need for a very cheap price, but their warranties last as long as you can see the license plate on their trucks. After that, when that part or system fails and your unable to contact them. You’ll end up having to contact another company and not be covered under any labor warranties, and if they sold you a used system, no manufactures warranties and if the system was new, if they never registered it with the manufacture, then there is definitely no manufacturers warranties.

With High Performance Heating and Cooling, we take the head ache out of everything! We register your system and ensure that all of your warranties are valid and up to date. We help provide you or process your RG&E rebates on new installations and are literally available 24/7, 365 days a year, even 366 with leap year. We don’t take a vacation so you can. Our technicians always perform a high performance clean up, the only way that you will know that we were even there, is your unit functioning properly from a repair that was performed correctly, the new HVAC unit from a new installation and your lower monthly energy bills. No other HVAC company around her provides complete full service to ensure that their clients are completely taken care of. Whether it be our Highly Trained, drug tested, fully insured and licensed HVAC technicians that receive daily training to our office staff making sure that your warranties are valid and providing follow-up calls to ensure that you are 100% satisfied. We only hire the types of people we would be 150% okay with leaving alone in our own homes.

Why settle for less, pay more on your energy bills each month and receive horrible service when complete home comfort is only a phone call away? Call us today at 585-366-0557. We know you’ll be ecstatic with our performance, just take a look at all our reviews and you’ll see just what we are talking about!

Almost on a constant basis we are seeing the mistakes of heating and cooling contractors, who are installing HVAC systems wrong. Which in turn

causes the home owner to continuously have problems which require repairs. The cost of those repairs can really add up over time. Take for example, this radiant system we encounter was installed completely wrong. To the average heating and cooling contractors, it was installed properly and they would be non the wiser. To us, we could see the mistakes as clear as day, he was having problems with the system not running, all during winter. Now he has to dish out $2,500 to have everything ripped out and installed correctly, by professional highly trained technicians.

heating and cooling contractors installed this radiant system incorrectly.

A Radiant system that was installed improperly.

The trained professionals at High Performance Heating under go rigorous training before they enter the field. After that they receive daily training from the President of High Performance, Matt Nicodemus. Our reviews speak for themselves. We have had numerous clients call us up, telling us how the heating and cooling contractors they previously had at their home either did a total hack job or just completely installed their equipment wrong, so their furnace or boiler would not run properly. Instead of dealing with the head aches that come with having to spend more money to get something repaired that you just paid to have put in. Give High Performance Heating a call 585-426-3004 we install all of your equipment the right way the first time, saving you time and money that can be spent on your family, instead of having to pay another heating and cooling contractor to come and fix the mistakes of the first contractor.

Space Heater Safety | High Performance Heating

By | Heating, Home

By

Space heaters are a great alternative source of heat people use in their homes, but is everyone using them in the safest manner? With the bitter cold we have been forced to adapt to this winter, people are really experiencing the inefficiencies of their home. Furnaces might be struggling to handle the stress of maintaining a comfortable temperature. Most people don’t take any safety into consideration when using space heaters. As a company with values spread through their customers and community, we want to provide you with proper knowledge in safety, we provide customers with space heaters when waiting for a new furnace to be installed or to get through a night or weekend to keep the final bill down. As of Friday 2/20/15, almost all of Rochester is sold out of electric space heaters. So our highly trained technicians put together a comprehensive safety guide so you can make sure that you and your family are safe, considering almost all of Rochester is using space heaters.

  • When using a space heater, make sure you remember the 3 foot rule. Do not put anything within 3 feet of your space heater, especially anything that can burn easily (clothes, sofas, beds, papers, curtains or other flammable materials).
  • Remember to turn space heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.
  • Do not place space heaters under desks or other enclosed areas.
  • Keep space heaters away from exit ways, walkways and paths of travel.
  • Ensure that your space heater is on a non-flammable, stable, and level surface- located where it will not be knocked over.
  • Never operate a heater you suspect is damaged. Before use, inspect the heater, cord and plug for damage.
  • To prevent electrical shocks and electrocutions, always keep electric space heaters away from water, and NEVER touch an electric heater if you are wet.
  • It is a good idea when buying a space heater to check the box or with a sales person if the heater is safety-certified. A certified heater will have a safety certification mark.
  • Never run the heaters cord under rugs or carpeting, this can damage the cord causing it and near by objects to burn.

Don’t use portable propane space heaters indoors or in any confined space unless they are specifically designed for indoor use. Even then, make sure they are properly vented. Using gasoline or kerosene space heaters indoors is very dangerous, they emit carbon monoxide which is odorless, tasteless and colorless. You won’t know it’s there until it’s to late and by then the damage can already be done. Take a look at our carbon monoxide guide, knowing the warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning could potentially save lives.

If you’re tired of the inefficiencies of your heating equipment, which cause you to use space heaters, give High Performance Heating a call, 585-426-3004. Our Highly trained technicians can evaluate your home and heating equipment to determine the best course of action to get your home heated properly and comfortably.

It is critical that you check your flue pipes today!

By | Furnace, Heating

By
January 30, 2015

Right now is a critical time for heating systems to be working properly and the last thing that you should be dealing with right now is having heat or not. Rochester is getting hit with a pretty bad snow storm and snow is accumulating fast. We are expected to get 6-12 inches of snow today, but if you live over by the 104 corridor or by lake shore you could be getting much more snow. Also with the high winds today snow will be blowing around and could be high enough to cover your flue pipes (your exhaust and intake). When your flue pipes become covered with snow there is a real danger to you and your family that you should be aware of. If you have noticed snow covering those little white pipes sticking out the side of your house, give us a call so we can come make sure that your furnace is running properly and that you and your family will be safe.

When snow is covering your flue pipes, your furnace or boiler cannot run properly. Since the snow is covering your fresh air intake, your furnace or boiler has no way of pulling in clean air. Without clean air your furnace cannot run and because the exhaust is located at the same spot as the intake, your furnace or boiler cannot vent the exhaust properly. Forcing the exhaust back into your home, where it can do a lot of damage. The exhaust that is vented out of the flue pipes is extremely acidic, when it is properly vented outside into the air, it dissipates within minutes and is gone. But when it keeps being recirculated through your furnace, it just gets more and more acidic and will start to damage your heat exchanger, which could leave you without heat. When the exhaust is being forced back into your home, your not only gonna have acidic exhaust, it will also have carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer, you won’t know it’s there until it’s to late. It is odorless, tasteless and it doesn’t have a smell at all. If this happens it could very well kill you and your family, carbon monoxide is VERY dangerous. You should have a carbon monoxide detector in your home, if that detector goes off, leave your home immediately and go to a neighbors.

Going outside to walk around your house in weather like this isn’t ideal, we understand that. But taking 10 minutes to locate your flue pipes and clear the snow away is better than leaving the snow covering them and risk hurting everyone in your home, either by losing heat or the dangerous gases that could be making it’s way back inside. Don’t take the chance, if you have noticed snow covering the flue pipes and your not sure how long it has been like that, clear the snow away and then give High Performance Heating a call at 585-426-3004 so you can ensure everyone’s safety.
